Six to receive honorary degrees at WUSTL’s 153rd Commencement

WUSTL will award six honorary degrees during the university’s 153rd Commencement May 16. Among the honorees are a baseball legend, a women’s health pioneer and a conductor. WUSTL also will bestow academic degrees on about 2,800 members of the Class of 2014.

Genome regions once mislabeled ‘junk’ linked to heart failure

Large regions of the genome that were once referred to as “junk” DNA have been linked to human heart failure, according to research led by Jeanne Nerbonne, PhD, of the School of Medicine.

The School of Law held its annual Distinguished Law Alumni Awards dinner last week at the Ritz-Carlton in Clayton. Six graduates were honored for their outstanding professional achievements.

Thorp discusses why the humanities are essential to American higher education

Provost Holden Thorp, PhD, discusses the important role of the humanities in American higher education in delivering the Phi Beta Kappa/Sigma Xi Lecture for the Assembly Series this month. Held annually, the lecture is part of the Phi Beta Kappa initiation ceremony. This year, 81 students were inducted into the prestigious honor society.
